The “Great” Rubber Duck Hunt

Despite the oppressive heat, The Rod and Gun Club’s Annual “Great” Rubber Duck Hunt was held Saturday, August 14. Fifty rubber ducks were distributed around the lake for the hunt.

Our Winners

The Great Rubber Duck Hunt Winners of 2010

Rank Winner Prize
1st Place Brad and Diane Riggs $65.00
2nd Place Ken Hanna $40.00
3rd Place John Alber and Donna Dopuch $20.00

There were two special pirate ducks that were both found by Betty and Eric Dunlap, who won lake coolies and lighters.  The Rod and Gun Club made $125.00.  One surprising moment was when a boat full of excited kids and parents ran to the front of their pontoon for ducks and swamped the front of the boat bringing the motor out of the water.  Luckily everyone was safe and all had a good time.

Emu Sightings…or Tastes Like Chicken?

Brad Riggs took these photos of an emu he found on the entrance road last Thursday. No one knows where it came from. No one quite knows what emu tastes like either. We’ve heard rumors, however, that members of the Rod and Gun Club are busy tracking down emu recipes.

Of Historical Interest

The Lake in 1967

Dam Break

In mid-June of 1967, Lake Wauwanoka developed a leak and a perceptible drop occurred in the water level. The leak increased in size and by mid-September the lake’s water level had receded to the level shown on these pictures. The leak was sealed by late October and rainfall began refilling the lake.

Hunting and Fishing at the Lake

The Back Acres

We have been harvesting timber using select cutting for the past two years and this has helped a little with the Lake costs. Any blue-marked trees, the harvest color, should not be standing. However any of those still standing should not be cut because they are still live trees. The downed timber which is still in the logging sites are available to any resident willing to put out the labor to collect it.

If you want access to the back acres, please contact Chuck Nitsch at 636-797-2536 or Connie Hargis at 636-797-2372 so they can arrange a time to meet you.

ATV trails are not marked by LWI. However, any ATVs on lake property MUST always have official and current LWI vehicle tags affixed. Download a form now.
